Azerbaijan took advantage of the home factor and finished the 4th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games, held this week in Baku, as the most successful country with a total of 6 gold medals. Turkey ended up taking the second place overall with 5 titles, while Iran managed to climb to the top of the podium 3 times and Uzbekistan clinched 2 golds.
The 6 champions for the hosting nation in the event were: TAGHIZADE, who reigned in Men’s-68 kg after managing to beat EHSANIPETROUDI from Iran by 9-8 in the final; BEIGI HARCHEGANI, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -80 kg podium after defeating SARI from Turkey by 9-5 for the gold; AZIZOV, who tasted glory after getting rid of MOHAMMADI from Iran by a close 16-14 in the Men’s -87 kg gold medal match; ISAEV, who proved to be the strongest in Men’s +87 kg after edging SHOKIN from Uzbekistan in the last fight of the draw by a golden point in the extra period; ABAKAROVA, who left no chances for the rest of competitors in Women’s -49 kg, taking the title after outscoring YESBERGENOVA by a clear 14-4; and ERIS, who proved herself as the best of the Women’s -57 kg division after struggling to beat ALTUNEL from Turkey by 5-4 for the glory.
