Grand master Lee Dong Sup is elected the new President of Kukkiwon.

At the by-election of Kukkiwon President held on the morning of Jan. 28, Candidate No. 2 Grand master Lee Dong Sup with 55 votes out of total 75 votes of 44 from Korea and 31 from abroad overwhelmingly defeated Lim Choon Kil with 19 votes, the former vice president of Kukkiwon,

The by-election was conducted by on-line voting system in special consideration of such difficult situation due to COVID-19 pandemic.

President-elect Lee, the Kukkiwon highest 9th Dan holder, had spreaded his activities as a member of the National Assembly of Korea, and he made a leading role for making taekwondo into law to be the national martial art. He said ‘I will solidify Kukkiwon pursuing harmony, consideration and respect through its reform and normalization, and also I will establish an Ad Hoc Committee of ’Save-Dojang’ for those dojangs in difficult situation due to COVID-19 pandemic.  
 
And also he declared to concentrate possible efforts jointly with WT and Mr. Bach, IOC President , for taekwondo Poomsae to be accepted as an Olympic sport, and he added to establish a special policy for the joint growth of taekwondo as a sport and a martial art.

The president-elect Lee begins his official work as the Kukkiwon president on January 29 upon his receipt of the election certificate from G.M Jeong-rok Kim, 9th Dan.  He will fulfil the remaining term of office through October 11, 2022.

이동섭 태권도 대사범이 신임 국기원장에 당선됐다.

28일 오전 국기원에서 실시한 국기원장 보궐선거에서 기호 2번 이동섭 대사범이 국내 44표 해외 31표, 전체 75표 중 55표를 획득하며 19표를 얻은 기호 1번 임춘길 전 국기원 부원장을 압도적으로 따돌리고 당선됐다.

이번 선거는 코로나19 확산으로 어려운 상황을 감안해 온라인 투표를 병행해 진행됐다.

국기원 태권도 최고 9단의 태권도인 이기도 한 이 당선인은 20대 국회의원으로 활동하며 태권도를 우리나라 ‘국기’로 법제화하는 데 앞장선 인물이다. 이 당선인은 “국기원의 개혁과 정상화를 통해 태권도인 들이 화합, 배려, 존중하고 하나 되게 하는 국기원을 만들면서 특히 코로나19로 너무 힘든 일선도장을 위해 도장 살리기 특별위원회를 만들고 해외 사범님들을 예우하는 국기원을 만들겠다”고 말했다.

또한 “세계태권도연맹(WT)과 바흐IOC 위원장 등과 협력해 품새를 올림픽 정식종목에 채택되는데 최선을 다하겠다. 그리고 스포츠 태권도와 무도 태권도가 동반 성장할 수 있도록 특별한 정책을 만들겠다.”고 강조했다.

이 당선인은 29일 국기원에서 김정록 선관위 위원(전 국기원 9단 연맹 회장)으로 부터 당선 증을 받고 국기원장으로 공식 업무를 시작한다. 잔여 임기는 2022년 10월11일 까지다.
