Kukkiwon presented an honorary 9 dan to the former US president, Donald Trump.

In November 19, 2021, 4:00 PM (local time) the president of Kukkiwon, G.M Lee Dong-sup, visited Donald Trump’s resort located at Mar a Lago, Palm Beach, Florida, USA, presented the honorary 9 dan certificate and Taekwondo uniform to Donald Trump.

After presenting the honorary certificate, President Lee said “I heard that the Donald Trump is highly interested in Taekwondo. I ask for his continuous supports and cooperation for Taekwondo and Kukkiwon.”

Trump said “It is my pleasure and honor to receive this honorary certificate. Taekwondo is a great martial art for protecting oneself in these times.” Trump also invited the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team with a great expectation.

전 미국 대통령 직접 만나 명예단증 수여

국기원이 도널드 트럼프 전 미국 대통령에게 명예 9단증을 수여했다.

이동섭 국기원장은 11월 19일 오후 4시(현지 시각) 트럼프 전 대통령의 별장인 플로리다주 팜비치의 소재 마러라고 리조트를 방문, 트럼프 전 대통령에게 명예 9단증을 수여하고 태권도복을 증정했다.

이 원장은 명예단증을 수여한 뒤 ”트럼프 전 대통령께서는 평소 태권도에 대한 남다른 애정이 있는 것으로 알고 있다“며 “앞으로도 태권도와 국기원에 대한 많은 관심과 협력을 부탁드린다”고 말했다.

트럼프 전 대통령은 ”명예단증을 받게 되어 대단히 특별하고 영광스럽게 생각한다“며 ”태권도는 요즘 이런 시기에 자기 자신을 보호하기 위한 훌륭한 무도이다“고 소감을 밝힌 뒤 국기원 태권도시범단의 방문을 요청하며 기대감을 나타냈다.
