President Supreme Grand master Kim Gyung-Duk of GTA Designates “Tunisia as A Base for Spreading Traditional Taekwondo to Africa”

HE Kamel Daqish, Minister of Youth and Sports, visited Korea with invitation from the Gyeong Gi-Do Taekwondo Association (President Supreme Grand master Kim Gyung-Deok, hereinafter GTA) and he returned after the sports diplomacy focusing on Taekwondo.

 

HE Kamel Daqish and 3 other figures visited and stayed in Korea for 6 days from 6th to 11th with invitation from the GTA. They worked on the sports diplomacy focusing on Taekwondo and visited Office of Future Strategy Planning, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Kukkiwon.

After the discussion with Minister Park Bo-kyun of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Minister HE Kamel Daqish said “We will try to promote sports, cultural, tourism and economical exchange based on Taekwondo.” 

HE Kamel Daqish and his group visited Office of Future Strategy Planning and had a discussion with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. They also visited Kukkiwon and received the Honorary 7 Dan certificate and Taekwondo uniform from the President Lee Dong-sup.   

After finishing all the schedules in Korea, Minister HE Kamel Daqish said “It was a busy schedule and I deeply feel thankful to GTA. We promise to support on training the body and mind of African youth through Taekwondo.” 

The invitation of Minister HE Kamel Daqish was possible with contributions from GTA and Ambassador Seon Nam-guk of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.

Among 30 African countries, Tunisia was designated as the base of spreading the traditional Taekwondo to Africa by GTA for playing the leading role.  

Last October 20, GTA also sent Instructor Hwang In-sik to Tunisia and held a poomsae seminar 3 times for 3 days. GTA also signed MOU with Tunisia Taekwondo Federation (President Muhammad Ghannem) on last October. 

GTA President Kim said “We designated Tunisia as the base for spreading the traditional Taekwondo to 30 African countries. We plan to secure the bridgehead by holding International Open GTA Cup Competition in Africa by 2023.”
