Master Rohan Bangar, an active Taekwondo leader in India, recently met with Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup to discuss the Taekwondo environment in India and share his experiences in Korea. President Lee highly praised Master Rohan's role as a young leader and urged him to serve as an important bridge between Korean Taekwondo (including Kukkiwon) and Indian Taekwondo.

Master Rohan Bangar, originally from the Pune region of India, possesses a background as a former Indian National Player, having shown remarkable talent in Taekwondo since childhood. Driven by a deep passion for the sport, he traveled to Korea in 2009 for study, where he systematically learned Taekwondo in the Department of Sports Science at Daekyung University. Notably, during his time studying in Korea, he formed a significant connection with Master Moon Yang-gyu, who operated a Taekwondo dojang in Ulsan and worked as a Taekwondo specialist reporter. Master Rohan lived with Master Moon for four years, receiving substantial help in Taekwondo training and adapting to Korean culture. During this period, he enhanced his capabilities as an instructor, including achieving Kukkiwon 5th Dan certification.

Building on his studies in Korea and the cherished connection with Master Moon Yang-gyu, Master Rohan became active in various fields upon his return to India. He worked as a Taekwondo coach for the Pune region and later for the Maharashtra state team, gaining recognition for his leadership. Simultaneously, utilizing his Korean language proficiency, which he improved in Korea (holding Korean Language Proficiency Test Level 5), he was employed as a software engineer at a major Indian corporation, undertaking software technical support tasks related to collaborations with Korean companies like LG, POSCO, and Samsung. Currently, Master Rohan operates his own Taekwondo dojang, 'Zeus Taekwondojang Club,' teaching over 120 students.

During his recent meeting with Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, Master Rohan elaborated on the current Taekwondo instructional environment in India and the knowledge and experiences he gained while studying in Korea. A deep conversation reportedly took place, particularly based on his understanding of Korea's advanced training system and the role of Kukkiwon.

President Lee Dong-sup commended Master Rohan for his successful activities as a Taekwondo leader at a young age and noted his deep connection with Korea, which has helped him build Korean language skills and professional expertise in another field. President Lee expressed his expectation that Master Rohan will play a crucial role not only in the development of Indian Taekwondo but also in vitalizing exchange between Kukkiwon/Korean Taekwondo and the Indian Taekwondo community.

Through his meeting with President Lee Dong-sup, Master Rohan Bangar had the opportunity for direct communication with the highest institution of Taekwondo's home country. It is reported that he reaffirmed his intention to further develop his ties with Korea and contribute to Taekwondo exchange between the two nations.

인도 태권도계에서 주목받고 있는 젊은 지도자 로한 방가르(Rohan Bangar) 마스터가 최근 서울 국기원을 방문해 이동섭 국기원장을 예방했다. 이번 만남은 태권도 종주국과 인도 태권도계 간 교류를 심화시키기 위한 의미 있는 자리로, 양측은 향후 협력 확대 가능성에 대해 심도 있는 의견을 교환했다.

로한 마스터는 인도 마하라슈트라 주 푸네 지역 출신으로, 어린 시절부터 태권도에 뛰어난 소질을 보이며 인도 국가대표 선수로 활약했다. 태권도에 대한 깊은 열정을 품고 2009년 한국으로 유학을 떠나 대경대학교 스포츠과학과에서 정식으로 태권도를 전공하며 전문적 수련과 지도법을 체계적으로 익혔다.

특히 유학 기간 중에는 울산에서 도장을 운영하며 태권도 전문기자로도 활동했던 문양규 마스터와 인연을 맺고, 4년간 함께 생활하며 한국 문화에 대한 깊은 이해를 쌓는 동시에 태권도 수련과 한국어 실력도 향상시켰다. 이 기간 동안 그는 국기원 공인 5단 승단에 성공하며 지도자로서의 역량을 갖췄다.

귀국 후 로한 마스터는 태권도 지도자로서 인도 현지에서 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있다. 현재 푸네 지역에서 'Zeus Taekwondojang Club'을 운영하며 120여 명의 수련생을 지도하고 있으며, 지역 및 마하라슈트라 주 대표팀 코치로도 활약 중이다. 또한 유창한 한국어 실력을 바탕으로 인도 대기업에서 한국 관련 프로젝트를 담당하며, 양국 간 산업 교류에도 간접적으로 기여하고 있다.

이번 국기원 방문은 한국에서 체득한 경험과 전문성을 바탕으로, 로한 마스터가 인도 내 태권도 발전은 물론 국기원과의 협력 가능성을 직접 타진한 계기로 주목된다. 그는 이동섭 원장과의 대화에서 인도 내 태권도 수련 인프라 현황, 현지 지도자 교육의 현실, 심사 체계 등에 대해 상세히 설명하며, 국기원이 보다 적극적인 역할을 해주기를 요청했다.

이동섭 국기원장은 “로한 마스터는 젊은 나이에 태권도 유학 경험, 지도 경력, 언어 능력까지 갖춘 보기 드문 인재”라며 “한국과의 인연을 바탕으로 인도 태권도계와 국기원 간 교류를 이끌 중요한 연결 고리가 되어주길 바란다”고 격려했다.

로한 마스터는 “태권도의 종주국 최고 기관인 국기원과 직접 대화할 수 있어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “한국에서 배운 것을 바탕으로 인도에 태권도를 제대로 뿌리내리고, 앞으로 양국 간 교류에 기여할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

한편, 국기원은 현재 전 세계 210여 개국에 공인도장을 운영 중이며, 해외 지도자와의 유기적 소통 및 현지 지원을 확대하기 위해 다양한 국제 협력 프로그램을 추진하고 있다. 로한 마스터와 같은 한국 유학 출신의 해외 지도자들과의 협력은 국기원의 글로벌 비전 강화에도 긍정적인 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.
