October 30th WT Taekwondo demonstration team visiting North Korea, ‘GO GO to Pyongyang’

The only divided nation in the world, Korea Peninsula, South Korea and North Korea are linked to each other through the exchange of Taekwondo, for restoring homogeneity.
 
The president of the World Taekwondo Federation(WT), the Taekwondo demonstration team(chairman, La il-han, and Lee dong-sup the National Assemblyman(The president of the National Assemblymen Taekwondo Federation) will visit Pyongyang from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 with the invitation of the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF,president Ri Yong-Sun). 

The WT's invitation to Pyongyang has only been held for seven months since April, and the total number of visiting North Korean members were 49.
 

This visit will be attended by  Choue chung-ung WT president, Ahmed Fouly WT vice gpresident and the president of Africa Taekwondo Federation, John Kotsifas WT vice president and the president of Oceania Taekwondo Federation, Hossein Rafaty, secretary general of WT, Angelo Cito, WT member of the executive committee and president of Italy Taekwondo Association, Lee dong-sup national assemblyman, An Min-suk national assemblyman, Sang-wook chairman of Taekwondo promotion foundation, Han Chang-heon vice president of Taekwondo Association of Daegu. The North Korean demonstration team goes to Pyongyang from Beijing using Go-lyeo Airlines.

During the five-day visit, the WT demonstration team is scheduled to perform two demonstrations at the Tae Kwon Do Hall in Pyongyang. On 31st, a solo show will be held. On November 1st, a tour of the Taekwondo Sungji Hall and Mangyong Students Boys Palace will be held. On the 2nd day, a joint demonstration with the ITF demonstration team will take place.
 

The WT president, who has been unable to cooperate with the demonstration team on the schedule of the WT general meeting and the executive committee in the past seven months, seems to have a deep and progressive discussion on the development of Taekwondo between the two groups.

WT and ITF will showcase their joint historical demonstration for the first time in the opening ceremony of the World Taekwondo Championships in Chelabinsk, Russia in May 2015, following the agreement signed in Nanjing, China in August 2014, Taekwondo Championships in Muju, and the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games in February this year.
 

On the other hand, Tae Kwon Do Federation leader Lee dong-sup, who accompanies this visit, has emphasized the necessity of interchange of Taekwondo in South and North Korea several times.

In particular, Lee governor has held in-depth discussions on this plan several times in connection with the reunions of the North Korean athletic community, such as the IOC member Chang ung, Ri Yong-Sun ITF president, Kim Il-Kook president of athletic.

On June 25, 2017, the governor Lee and north Korea Chang ung member of met four times to discuss ways to exchange Taekwondo in the South and North Korea,
and it is known that the president Lee’s persuasion is the most effective way to draw positive responses from the Chang ung committee, especially when North Korea dispatched a Taekwondo demonstration team to the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.

If we look at the discussion On February 5, 2018, assemblyman Lee met with the Chang ung IOC committee at Pyeong Chang IOC general meeting where they discussed dispatching Taekwondo team, and at the meeting with Kim Il-Kook North Korea governor of Athletic who visited South Korea with North Korean Taekwondo demonstration team and Chang ung North Korea IOC committee, Ri Yong-Sun ITF president, he officially proposed the inter exchange of South and North Korea Sports and received offer saying “We will definitely invite South Korea demonstration team to North Korea.”

The following is the records of the interview with North Korean delegation who visited Korea in February.

The governor Lee visiting North Korea as the main party is because of the representability of debating with North Korean athletic people and he is  recognized as an experts that he  is invited from the WT officially and accompanied to North Korea.

During the visit, it is observed that Taekwondo exchanges between South and North Korea, especially South and North Taekwondo Poomsae and words that are getting more heterogeneous, will be discussed actively.
 
Through this Taekwondo exchanges, the governor is expected to confirm the homogeneity of the South and the North as one and contribute greatly to the reconciliation of South and North Korea and peace in Northeast Asia.

세계유일의 분단국 한반도, 태권도 교류를 통해 남과 북이 하나로 이어지며 한민족 동질성회복에 나선다.

세계태권도연맹(이하,WT)총재단과 태권도시범단(단장,나일한) 그리고 이동섭 국회의원(국회의원태권도연맹 총재)등이 국제태권도연맹(ITF, 총재 리용선)초청으로 10월 30일부터 11월 3일까지 평양을 방문 교류한다.

이번 WT의 평양 시범 초청 공연은 지난 4월 이후 7개월 만이며, 방북 인원은 총 49명으로 구성됐다.

이번 방북단은 조정원 WT총재, 아흐메드 플리(Ahmed Fouly) WT 부총재 겸 아프리카 태권도연맹 회장, 존 코치파스(John Kotsifas) WT 부총재 겸 오세아니아 태권도연맹 회장, 후세인 라파티(Hossein Rafaty) WT 사무총장, 안젤로 치토(Angelo Cito) WT 집행위원 겸 이탈리아 태권도협회장, 이동섭 의원, 안민석 의원, 이상욱 태권도진흥재단 이사장, 한창헌 대구시태권도협회 상임부회장 등으로 구성됐으며 방북 시범단 일행은 베이징에서 고려항공을 이용 평양으로 들어간다.

4박 5일간의 방북 기간 동안 WT 시범단은 총 두 차례 평양 태권도전당에서 시범을 펼칠 예정이다. 31일에는 단독 공연, 11월 1일에는 태권도성지관과 만경대학생 소년궁전 등을 둘러보고 2일에는 ITF 시범단과 합동 시범을 펼친다.

지난 7개월 전 방북시 WT 총회와 집행위원회 일정으로 시범단과 함께하지 못했던 WT 총재단은 이번에는 함께 방북길에 올라 양 단체간의 향후 태권도 발전에 관한 심도 깊은 진전된 논의가 있을 것으로 보인이다.

WT와 ITF는 2014년 8월 유스올림픽이 열린 중국 난징에서 맺은 합의의정서에 의해 2015년 5월 러시아 첼라빈스크에서 열린 세계태권도선수권대회 개회식서 사상 처음으로 역사적인 합동 시범공연을 선보인 후 2017년 6월 무주 세계태권도선수권대회, 올 2월 평창 동계올림픽 개막식 식전 공연 등에서 합동시범을 펼친 바 있다.

한편, 이번 방북에 동행하는 이동섭 국회의원태권도연맹 총재는 수차례에 걸쳐 남·북 태권도 교류의 필요성에 대해 강조해 온 바가 있다

특히 이총재는 북한의 장웅 IOC위원, 리용선 ITF 총재, 김일국 체육상 등 북한 체육계의 거두들과 수차례 만나 이 방안에 대해 심도 깊은 논의를 지속적으로 해 왔다

2017년 6월 25일 무주 세계태권도선수권대회에서 이총재와 북한 장웅 IOC 위원이 네 차례에 걸쳐 남·북 태권도 교류 방안 논의하고 장웅 위원으로 부터 긍정적인 답변을 이끌어 내며 특히 평창 동계올림픽에 북한이 태권도 시범단을 파견한 것은 이때 이총재의 설득이 주효한 것으로 알려지고 있다

이의원이 2018년 2월 5일 평창 IOC 총회에서 장웅 IOC 위원 등을 만나 태권도단 파견 논의를 보면,

북한 태권도 시범단을 이끌고 방한한 김일국 북한 체육상을 비롯한 장웅 북한 IOC위원, 리용선 ITF 총재 등과 만난 자리에서 남·북 스포츠 교류 공식 제안하고 이 자리에서 리용선 ITF 총재로부터 “한국 태권도 시범단을 북한으로 꼭 초청하겠다.”는 제안을 받은 바 있다.

다음은 2월 당시 방한한 북한측 대표단과의 면담 일지이다.

-12일 서울시청 다목적홀 북한 태권도 시범단 공연 및 박원순 서울시장 주재 만찬.

-13일 정세균 국회의장 주재 만찬.

- 14일 MBC 공개홀 북한 태권도 시범단 공연 및 최승호 MBC 사장 주최 만찬.

이총재가 이번 방북 주요일행으로 가는 것은 그동안 북한 측 체육계 인사들과 지속적으로 논의해 온 대표성과 태권도 전문성을 인정받고 이에 WT로부터 공식 초청을 받아 방북에 동행하는 것이다.

방북 일정 동안 남·북간 태권도 교류, 특히 이질성이 심화되고 있는 남·북 태권도 품새와 단어 등에 대해 동질성 회복 방안을 적극 논의할 것으로 관측된다.

또한 이총재의 이번 방북에서 태권도 교류를 통해 남과 북이 하나로 이어져 민족 동질성을 확인하고 남·북 화해와 동북아 평화에 크게 기여할 것으로 전망된다.
