Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF) supporting 9 countries in South Asia with taekwondo supplies.

The TPF (Chairman Lee Sang-wook) will send Taekwondo uniforms and supplies to nine ASEAN countries in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Yang-woo), in line with the government's New Southern Policy.

Among the 11 countries in South Asia, Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipients are Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, and Laos. Singapore and Brunei are not subject to New South Policy; as a result, they are not included in the list.

The TPF will provide a total of 1,700 items to these countries, including Taekwondo uniforms and Taekwondo training supplies this month.

Lee Tae-wook, Chairman of the TPF, said, “We hope that initiating taekwondo cultural diplomacy with ASEAN countries will contribute to the success of the New Southern Policy of the government, thereby enhancing national interests.”

"The TPF will continually carry out various support projects to expand the base of taekwondo and promote the sport within the ASEAN countries and also for those countries where taekwondo is not fully activated," he continued.

The TPF has been donating Taekwondo clothes and supplies to developing countries on a yearly basis as part of its official development assistance and actively promoting projects to revitalize taekwondo overseas by supporting overseas taekwondo classrooms, inviting excellent athletes, and conducting joint training in Taekwondowon.

태권도진흥재단(이사장 이상욱) 정부의 신남방정책 정책 기조에 발 맞춰 문화체육관광부(장관 박양우)와 함께  아세안 9개국에 태권도복과 용품을 지원한다.

지원대상은 신남방 국가 11개국 중 공적개발원조(ODA) 수혜국들로 말레이시아, 미얀마, 베트남, 인도, 인도네시아, 캄보디아, 태국, 필리핀, 라오스 등 9개국이다. 싱가포르와 브루나이는 신남방정책 대상국이 아니기에 ODA 수혜국에 포함되어 있지 않다.

태권도진흥재단은 12월 중으로 이들 국가들에 태권도복과 태권도 훈련용품 등 총 1,700여점을 지원할 예정이다.

태권도진흥재단 이상욱 이사장은 “아세안 국가들과의 태권도 공공문화외교 활성화는 국가 신남방정책의 성공에 기여하는 등 국익증진에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다”라며, “앞으로도 아세안 국가와 태권도 비활성화 국가 등을 대상으로 태권도 저변 확대와 태권도진흥 등을 위해 다양한 지원 사업을 펼쳐가겠다”라고 했다.

한편, 태권도진흥재단은 공적개발원조의 일환으로 매년 개발도상국에 태권도복과 용품을 지원하고 있으며, 해외 태권도 교실에 대한 지원, 우수 선수 초청연수와 합동 전지훈련 등을 태권도원에서 진행하면서 해외 태권도 활성화를 위한 사업들을 적극 추진하고 있다.
