24thWorld Taekwondo Peace Corps Launching Ceremony
World Taekwondo Peace Corps Foundation led by Chairman Lee Joong-keun of the Booyoung Group held the “Launching Ceremony” of the 24thWinter World Taekwondo Peace Corps Volunteers on January 7that the Booyoung Building near Namdaemun Gate in Seoul.
In the ceremony, Mr. Shin Myung-ho, Foundation senior board member representing chairman Lee, other board members and 94 Peace Corps Volunteers attended.
Peace Corps Volunteers who are mostly university students majoring in Taekwondo will be dispatched to the 22 countries around the World for about 40 days from the second week of January. They will teach Taekwondo and Korean language to the people in the dispatched countries with the capacity of the civilian diplomats and promote diverse Korean culture.
Before today’s ceremony, the Volunteers took the 8-days intensive course lessons at the Shinhan University on Taekwondo theory and practice as well as manners and attitude as the civilian diplomats.
Mr. Shin remarked that the volunteers should have the strong sense of mission and pride as the civilian diplomats promoting international peace and Korean culture by teaching Korean national sports, Taekwondo, and that their role is even more important this year because there will be Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
The World Taekwondo Peace Corps Foundation was established in September, 2009 with the goals of sharing the Korean Wave culture throughout the world through Taekwondo, based on the spirit of love, friendship, sharing and volunteering. To date, the Foundation has sent 2,372 volunteers to 123 countries.
세계태권도평화봉사재단, ‘제24기 동계 세계태권도평화봉사단 발대식’ 개최
'7일부터 22개국 94명 파견'
세계태권도평화봉사재단(총재 이중근)은 7일 서울시 중구 세종대로에 위치한 부영빌딩 3층 대강당에서 ‘제24기 동계 세계태권도평화봉사단 발대식’을 개최했다.
이날 발대식에는 세계태권도평화봉사재단 이중근 총재를 대신한 신명호 이사를비롯해 재단 임직원, 교육연수원장, 봉사단원 등 100여명이 참석했다.
최종 선발된 봉사단원들은 신한대학교에서 지난 12월 23일부터 30일까지
7박 8일간 해외 봉사활동에 필요한 기본 소양과 태권도 이론 및 실기교육을 받았다.
발대식을 마친 94명의 봉사단원은 1월 2째주부터 라트비아 등 전세계 22개국에 파견되어 현지인들을 대상으로 태권도 지도와 한국어 교육 등의 봉사활동을 통해 한류문화전파에 앞장서는 민간 외교관으로서의 역할을 하게 된다.
이 자리에서 신명호 이사는 “대한민국의 국기인 태권도를 통해 국제평화 증진과 한류문화를 전파하는 민간외교관으로서, 특히 올해는 2020년 도쿄 올림픽을 앞두고 태권도 종주국으로서의 위상을 높이기 위해 세계태권도평화봉사단의역할이 매우 중요한 시기라고 생각한다” 며 “봉사기간동안 투철한 사명감과 자부심을 가져달라”고 강조했다.
세계태권도평화봉사재단은 태권도 문화와 스포츠 정신을 세계에 알리고 봉사 활동을 통한 세계 평화 기여를 위해 2009년 9월 설립됐으며, 현재까지 123개국(누적국가포함 527개국)에 2,372명의 봉사단원을 파견하여 태권도 봉사활동 등을펼쳐왔다.
