The World Taekwondo Cadet Championships drew to a close today with a number of new records set on the final day of scintillating action. 

Iran continued its strong form in the Championships winning two gold medals, while Korea, Cote D’Ivoire and Thailand all won one gold each. For Cote D’Ivoire it was the country’s first medal at the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships since 2014. History was also made by Israel when Lipaz Hajama won bronze in the W+59kg which was the country’s first ever medal at Cadet level, while Georgia’s Nika Gogoberidze’s silver in the M-61kg was his country’s first medal in any World Taekwondo Competition.  

Iran’s Mohammad Mehd Saadati won the first gold of the day in the M-49kg as he beat Eunseok Lee from Korea, 2:0. 

Thosiri Singthong continued the Thailand young women’s team’s impressive form at the Championships as she secured gold against Iran’s Parnian Saki in the W-37kg.  

With Korea heading for a top place finish in the young men’s overall standings, Keonwoo Kim added another gold to their tally as he beat Belgium’s Yassine El Haddaoui 2:1 in the final of the M-57kg.  

Cote D’Ivoire’s Kimi Laurene Ossin history making performance came at the expense of Thailand’s Suphaphon Srimahathat who she beat 2:0 in the final of the W+59kg.  

The final bout of the day saw Radin Zeinali from Iran win gold in the M-61kg with victory over Georgia’s Nika Gogoberidze.

소피아2022세계유소년태권도선수권대회가 나흘간의 열전을 끝내고 막을 내렸다.

31일(현지시각) 불가리아 소피아 아르미츠 아레나(Arena Armeets Sofia)에서 열린 ‘소피아 2022 WT 세계태권도유소년선수권대회’ 마지막 날 한국 남자 유소년대표 김건우와 이은석이 금메달과 은메달을 추가 획득하면서 남자부는 종합우승을 이끌었다. 여자부는 종합 3위를 차지했다. 

여자 59kg 초과급 코트디부아르 오신 키미 로렌은 태국 슈리마하트 서폰을 꺾고 유소년 세계대회에 남녀 통틀어 코트디부아르 첫 메달을 금메달로 장식했다.

이 체급 준결승에서 아쉽게 태국에 패해 동메달을 획득한 이스라엘 하자마 리파즈 역시 이스라엘 유소년 대표팀 최초로 메달을 기록했다.

만12세부터 만14세까 세계 각국의 태권도 꿈나무들이 경기 경험을 쌓고 우정을 나누는 이 대회는 2014년 아제르바이잔 바쿠에서 처음 개최된 뒤 2015년 전북 무주, 2017 이집트  샤름 엘 셰이크, 2019년 우즈베키스탄 타슈켄트에 이어 이번에 불가리아 소피아에서 다섯 번째로 열렸다.

남자 -61kg급 결승에서 이란 고고베리제 니카에게 패해 은메달을 획득한 조지아 제이나리 라딘은 조지아 태권도 역사상 세계태권도연맹이 주최하는 유소년, 청소년, 성인 겨루기와 품새를 통틀어 첫 메달을 획득했다.

남자부 종합우승은 한국(금4, 은4 = 종합점수 730점)이 차지했다. 강호 이란(금2, 은1 = 313점)과 멕시코(금2, 동1 = 291점)를 큰 점수 차로 제쳤다.

이란 여자 유소년은 금4개, 은1개, 동1개를 획득해 총 582점으로 종합우승을 차지하며 대회 2연패 및 대회 통산 5회 대회 중 4회 우승의 대기록을 세웠다. 준우승은 태국(금2, 은2 = 363점)이 차지했다. 

한국중고태권도연맹(회장 이경배) 이성훈 전무이사는 “한국 유소년 대표팀은 이번 대회를 앞두고 국제 대회 경쟁력 강화를 위해 한국초등학교태권도연맹(회장 최권열)과 한국중고태권도연맹이 WT 새 경기 규칙인 라운드시스템과 동일한 경기규칙을 적용해 선발전을 치렀다. 대회 파견 전에는 풍생고에서 사흘간 합숙훈련을 통해 국제대회가 처음인 선수들에게 다양한 전술훈련을 실시했다.”고 밝혔다. 

이어 “대표팀 지도자 선임 역시도 경쟁력 우선으로 선발했다. 세계선수권대회 세컨 자격이 부여되는 WT 경기지도자 레벨2 자격증 소지자를 우선으로 최근 국제대회에서 국가대표 선수를 많이 배출한 팀 지도자 위주로 구성했다”고 덧붙였다.  

남녀 최우수선수상에는 모두 -41kg에서 우승한 멕시코 기예르모 마누엘 코르테스와 우즈베키스탄 레이로 카스노바가 수상했다.

남녀 최우수지도상은 한국의 황한삼, 이란의 마수메 모하마디안, 남녀 최우수심판상은 한국의 박경섭, 아제르바이잔 아이굴 압둘라예바 심판이 각각 수상했다. 감투상은 대만, 장려상은 우크라이나가 받았다.

다음 세계유소년태권도대회는 코로나19로 연기 개최된 만큼 내년 2023년 보스니아 헤르체고비나 사라예보에서 열린다.
