‘2025 Seongnam Open International Taekwondo Championship’ to Be Held in Seongnam This July

Newly elected President Lee Dae-gi: “We will make this a world-class event that everyone notices”

Seongnam City (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) and the Seongnam City Sports Council (Chairman Lee Yong-gi) will host the 2025 Seongnam Open International Taekwondo Championship, organized by the Seongnam City Taekwondo Association (President Lee Dae-gi), on July 19 (Sat) and 20 (Sun) at the newly renovated Seongnam Indoor Gymnasium.

This year’s tournament is expected to feature delegations from over 30 countries, as Seongnam aims to further elevate its status as a global center of taekwondo.

Under the leadership of newly appointed President Lee Dae-gi, the Association plans a more systematic and substantial competition. Lee, who brings decades of experience as a taekwondo instructor and international exchange organizer—including the highly praised 2023 World Taekwondo Hanmadang co-hosted with Kukkiwon—has vowed to drive a qualitative leap in the tournament’s standards.

“Our goal is to create an event that every participant enjoys and wants to return to,” Lee said. “We’ll do everything in our power to make Seongnam a city that lives in the hearts of taekwondo practitioners worldwide as a place they want to revisit.”

During the tournament, participants can explore Seongnam’s unique blend of cutting-edge industry and traditional culture in nearby attractions such as Pangyo Techno Valley, Yuldong Park, the Seongnam Arts Center, and local traditional markets.

With full backing from Seongnam City and its Council—spanning budgetary, infrastructure, and international exchange support—the tournament is set to showcase Seongnam as an international taekwondo hub.

“This event is not only about competition, but a multifaceted celebration of culture, tourism, and exchange,” said a City official. “It will serve as a model for international exchange through taekwondo while highlighting Seongnam’s charms to a global audience.”

세계 태권도인의 여름 축제, ‘2025 성남오픈국제태권도대회’ 7월 개최

성남시(시장,신상진) 체육회(회장, 이용기)가 주최하고 성남시태권도협회(회장, 이대기)가 주관하는 『2025 성남오픈국제태권도대회』가 오는 7월 19일(토)부터 20일(일)까지 성남실내체육관에서 성대히 개최될 것으로 보인다. 올해 대회는 30여 개국 이상의 선수단이 참여할 것으로 예상되며, 성남시는 이번 대회를 통해 글로벌 태권도 중심 도시로서의 위상을 한층 강화할 계획이다.

이번 대회는 특히, 이대기 신임 성남시태권도협회장의 주도 아래 더욱 체계적이고 내실 있는 대회로 기대를 모은다. 이 회장은 본대회와 수십 년간 태권도 지도자 및 국제 교류 활동에 몸담아온 풍부한 경험을 바탕으로, 대회의 질적 도약을 이끌겠다는 강한 의지를 보이고 있다. 실지 국기원과 성남시가 공동 주최한 대규모의 ‘2023 세계태권도한마당‘행사도 실무적 운영도 매우 성공적이었다는 평가다. 

이대기 회장은 “참가자 모두가 만족하고, 다시 오고 싶어하는 대회를 만드는 것이 목표”라며, “성남이 세계 태권도인들의 마음속에 ‘다시 오고 싶은 도시’로 남도록 혼신의 힘을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
