A symbolic sculpture containing the spirit and philosophy of Taekwondo was established in Kukkiwon, the headquarters of Taekwondo in the world. The unveiling ceremony held at 5 p.m. on the 13th in the garden in front of the front door of Kukkiwon was a meaningful venue that connects Taekwondo's past, present, and future, and encompasses the harmony of tradition and modernity.
The event was attended by Lee Dong-sup, president of the Kukkiwon, Vice-chairman of the Kukkiwon, Lee Dae-soon, former chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, Lee Choong-young, head of the Kukkiwon Institute, Choi Jae-chun, chairman of the UNESCO Listing Committee on Taekwondo, Park Kwang-il, chairman of the Kukkiwon Committee, Kang Shin-cheol, grand master, and Kim Se-hyuk, former head of the Kukkiwon Training Center. In addition, about 50 guests, including Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Hyung-jae, who has not spared any support for the Kukkiwon, Gangnam-gu Seoul Council Vice-Chairman Bok Jin-kyung, Gangnam-gu Council members Kang Eul-seok, Son Min-ki, and Ahn Ji-yeon, and Lee Sung-geun, who produced the sculpture.
President Lee Dong-sup said in a congratulatory speech, "The newly installed sculpture at the Kukkiwon visually embodies the spirit of peace and harmony of Taekwondo through a design that harmonizes Korea's traditional beauty and modern sense beyond simple works of art. This sculpture symbolizes the roots of Taekwondo and shows the future of Taekwondo that extends around the world." Through this, we will promote Taekwondo as a philosophy that contains spirit and culture beyond martial arts, and convey the deep value and meaning of Taekwondo to Taekwondo people and visitors at home and abroad who visit Kukkiwon, he said. "We hope that the new symbolic sculpture of our Kukkiwon will raise Taekwondo's pride, establish itself as a cultural attraction in Gangnam-gu that promotes Taekwondo's charm to the general public, and serve as an opportunity to increase the value of Korean culture in the world."
He then delivered appreciation plaques and merit plaques to artist Lee Sung-geun, vice chairman Bok Jin-kyung, Kang Eul-seok, Son Min-ki, Ahn Ji-yeon, Rep. Bok Jin-kyung, Kang Eul-seok, Son Min-ki, Ahn Ji-yeon, and Lee Sung-geun.
The unveiling ceremony is expected to serve as an opportunity to further strengthen Kukkiwon's status as the world's taekwondo headquarters. Through this space, Kukkiwon plans to present the direction of Taekwondo's development and further solidify its role as a central point for Taekwondo people around the world.
세계 태권도의 본산인 국기원에 태권도의 정신과 철학을 담아낸 상징 조형물이 세워졌다. 지난 13일 오후 5시, 국기원 현관 앞 정원에서 열린 제막식은 태권도의 과거와 현재, 미래를 잇고, 전통과 현대의 조화를 아우르는 뜻깊은 자리였다.
이날 행사에는 이동섭 국기원장과 노숙명 부원장을 비롯해 이대순 전 태권도진흥재단 이사장, 이충영 국기원 연구소장, 최재춘 태권도 유네스코 등재 추진위원장, 박광일 국기원기심회 의장, 강신철 대사범, 임종남 국기원 이사 김세혁 전 국기원 연수원장 등이 참석했다. 또한 국기원을 위해 물심양면 지원을 아끼지 않은 김형재 서울특별시의원, 복진경 강남구의회 부의장, 강을석·손민기·안지연 강남구의회 의원과 이번 조형물을 제작한 이성근 화백 등 50여 명의 내빈이 자리를 함께했다.
이동섭 원장은 인사말에서 “국기원에 새롭게 설치된 조형물은 단순한 예술 작품을 넘어, 한국의 전통미와 현대적 감각이 조화를 이룬 디자인을 통해 태권도의 평화와 화합 정신을 시각적으로 구현했다”며 “이 조형물은 태권도의 뿌리를 상징하는 동시에 전 세계로 뻗어나가는 태권도의 미래를 보여준다. 이를 통해 태권도가 무술을 넘어 정신과 문화를 담은 철학임을 알리고, 국기원을 찾는 국내외 태권도인과 방문객들에게 태권도의 깊은 가치와 의미를 전달할 것”이라며 또한 “우리 국기원의 새로운 상징 조형물은 태권도인의 자긍심을 높이고, 일반 대중에게는 태권도의 매력을 알리는 강남구의 문화적 명소로 자리매김할 것이며, 세계 속에서 한국 문화의 가치를 드높이는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 밝혔다.
이어 내빈들의 축사가 이어졌다.

이번 제막식은 세계 태권도 본부로서 국기원의 위상을 한층 강화하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다. 국기원은 앞으로 이 공간을 통해 태권도의 발전 방향을 제시하고, 전 세계 태권도인들의 구심점 역할을 더욱 공고히 해 나갈 방침이다.
