The World Taekwondo Headquarters Kukkiwon(President Lee Dong-sup) recently completed the installation of state-of-the-art heating and cooling systems at its Central Training Center with financial support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam District Office.

For the first time since its opening in 1972, the Central Training Center now boasts modern heating and cooling systems, providing a comfortable environment for judges, instructors, demonstration team training, and visitors, even during the ongoing heatwave.

This facility upgrade, a long-awaited project for Kukkiwon, alleviates the inconveniences caused by summer heat waves and winter cold waves and further strengthens its status as the World Taekwondo Headquarters.

The Kukkiwon demonstration team, which must endure particularly intense training, has seen a significant improvement in their concentration since the installation of air conditioning.

The demonstration team members reported, "Unlike in the past when we struggled to concentrate due to the heat, we can now focus solely on training, which has made a significant difference."

Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup emphasized, "We are very pleased to be able to provide a comfortable environment for the Taekwondo community, who have suffered from aging facilities. Thanks to the active support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam-gu District, we are able to provide a better space for Taekwondo practitioners and visitors from around the world."

President Lee is recognized for his consistent efforts to improve both the Kukkiwon's internal and external facilities.

Meanwhile, in May, Kukkiwon received 10 billion won(7,700,000 USD) in facility improvement funding from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Gangnam-gu District.

As a mecca for global Taekwondo practitioners, Kukkiwon strives to strengthen its status through various programs, including education, testing, research, and dissemination, to inherit and develop the spirit of Taekwondo. Starting this year, we look forward to providing a special and refreshing space for Taekwondo families and visitors to Kukkiwon.

세계태권도본부 국기원(원장 이동섭)은 서울시와 강남구의 재정 지원을 받아 중앙수련장에 최신 냉난방기 설치를 최근 마쳤다.

1972년 개원 이후 처음으로 중앙수련장에 현대식 냉난방기를 갖추면서, 연일 계속되는 폭염 속에도 심사·교육·시범단 훈련 및 방문객들에 쾌적한 환경이 마련됐다.

이번 설비 개선은 국기원의 숙원 사업 중 하나로, 여름 폭염과 겨울 한파로 인한 불편을 해소하고, 세계 태권도 본부로서 위상을 더욱 강화하는 계기가 됐다.

특히 강도 높은 훈련을 소화해야 하는 국기윈의 꽃 시범단은 냉방 설치 이후 훈련 집중력이 크게 향상됐다.

시범단원들은 “더위에 지쳐 집중이 어려웠던 과거와 달리, 이제는 훈련에만 몰입할 수 있어 질적으로 달라졌다”고 전했다.

이동섭 국기원장은 “그동안 노후화된 시설로 불편을 겪었던 태권도 가족들에게 쾌적한 환경을 제공할 수 있어 매우 기쁘다”며 “서울시와 강남구의 적극적인 지원 덕분에 전 세계 태권도인과 방문객 모두에게 더 나은 공간을 제공할 수 있게 됐다”고 강조했다.

이 원장은 국기원의 내외부 시설 개선을 꾸준히 추진하고 실행해온 원장으로 평가받고 있다.

한편 국기원은 지난 5월 서울시와 강남구로부터 100억 원 규모의 시설개선 재정을 지원받은 바 있다.

세계 태권도인의 성지인 국기원은 태권도 정신을 계승·발전시키기 위한 교육, 심사, 연구, 보급 등의 다양한 사업을 통해 위상 강화에 힘쓰고 있다.

올해 부터는 국기원을 찾는 태권도 가족과 방문객에게 특별하고 시원한 공간을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
