The election for the next president of Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, has officially begun. On September 9, the Gangnam-gu Election Commission announced that Ahn Yong-kyu, former President of Korea National Sport University, Yun Ungsuk, former President of the Kukkiwon Training Institute, and Nam Seung-hyun, former Head of the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team, have registered as candidates.

Candidates and their election staff will be allowed to campaign from September 10 to 18. A policy debate featuring all three candidates will take place on September 15.

Voting will be conducted by the electoral college through the online voting system (K-Voting) on September 19, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The candidate with the highest number of valid votes will be declared the winner.

In the event of a tie, the candidate holding the higher Taekwondo Dan rank will be elected. If the Dan rank is also the same, the candidate with the earlier promotion date to their final Dan will be declared the winner.

This Kukkiwon presidential election is expected to serve as a pivotal moment in selecting a leader who will shape the future vision and reform direction of the global Taekwondo community.

세계태권도본부 국기원의 차기 원장 선거가 본격화됐다. 서울 강남구 선거관리위원회는 9일 안용규 전 한국체육대학교 총장, 윤웅석 전 국기원 연수원장, 남승현 전 국기원 태권도시범단 단장이 국기원장 선거 후보로 등록했다고 밝혔다.

후보자와 선거사무원은 9월 10일부터 9월 18일까지 9일간 ▲전화(문자 포함) ▲정보통신망(전자우편, SNS 포함) ▲명함 배부 및 지지호소 ▲소견발표 ▲정책토론회 등을 통해 선거운동을 할 수 있다. 15일에는 세 후보가 참여하는 정책토론회가 열린다.

선거인단 투표는 19일 오전 6시부터 오후 6시까지 온라인투표시스템(K-Voting)을 통해 진행된다. 선거는 유효 투표 중 최다 득표자를 당선인으로 결정한다.

만약 최다 득표자가 동일할 경우 태권도 단이 높은 후보가, 단까지 동일할 경우 승단 연월일이 빠른 후보가 당선인으로 확정된다.

이번 국기원장 선거는 태권도계의 미래 비전과 개혁 방향을 제시할 수 있는 지도자를 뽑는 중요한 분수령이 될 것으로 전망된다.
