Asian Taekwondo Union Officially Launches 2026 Technology Committee Under the banner of 'Fair and Innovation'

On the 23rd, the Asian Taekwondo Union(ATU, President Kim Sang-jin) held the "2026 Technical Committee Appointment Ceremony" at Muju Taekwondo Academy in Jeollabuk-do, the center of world taekwondo, declaring massive organizational innovation and new leaps.

The appointment ceremony, which took place on the 21st, was attended by ATU President Kim Sang-jin, Honorary President Lee Kyu-seok, Vice President Kim Joong-heon, Vice President Jung Kook-hyun, Vice President Lee Kyung-bae, Director Kim Byung-hee, and President Kim Ha-young, as well as 100 newly appointed technical committee members and officials. The event was designed to strengthen the expertise of the Federation, which encompasses 45 Asian member countries, and to establish a future-oriented game management system.

Through this appointment ceremony, the Asian Taekwondo Union presented "fairness and creativity" and "fairness and innovation" as the core values of the federation's operation. In particular, it will secure transparency in the operation of the competition to increase the reliability of the judgment and operate a working-level cooperation system to respond to the rapidly changing sports environment.

The most noticeable change is the establishment of the Virtual Taekwondo and AI Committee. This can be interpreted as the will to preempt the next generation of sports content by incorporating cutting-edge IT technology into Taekwondo. In addition to the existing divisions such as competition, pumsae, and referees, the R&D, universities, duties, and ethics committees were further subdivided to deploy experts in each field.

Each subcommittee member, led by Kim Byung-hee, chairman of the technical committee, will establish technical standards for Asian taekwondo and support the successful hosting of major international competitions in 2026.

ATU President Kim Sang-jin said in an encouraging speech, "Today's commissioned members are the best experts in each field, and your wisdom and passion will soon become the new standard for Asian Taekwondo," adding, "Let's make the Asian Taekwondo Union a key organization leading the development of global Taekwondo through fair competition and constant innovation."

Honorary President Lee Kyu-seok then said, "We expect the technical committee to start anew in the era of Muju Taekwondo Center to further solidify the foundation of the federation."

23일 아시아태권도연맹(ATU, 회장 김상진)이 세계 태권도의 중심지인 전북 무주 태권도원에서 ‘2026 기술위원회 위촉식’을 개최하며 대대적인 조직 혁신과 새로운 도약을 선언했다.

지난 21일 진행된 이번 위촉식에는 김상진 ATU 회장을 비롯해 이규석 명예 회장, 김중헌 부회장, 정국현 부회장, 이경배 이사, 김병희 이사, 김하영 총장 등 연맹 주요 인사와 새롭게 선임된 기술위원 및 관계자 100여 명이 참석했다. 이번 행사는 아시아 45개 회원국을 아우르는 연맹의 전문성을 강화하고, 미래 지향적인 경기 운영 시스템을 구축하기 위해 마련되었다.

아시아태권도연맹은 이번 위촉식을 통해 ‘공정과 창의’, ‘공정과 혁신’을 연맹 운영의 핵심 가치로 제시했다. 특히 대회 운영의 투명성을 확보해 판정의 신뢰도를 높이는 동시에, 급변하는 스포츠 환경에 대응하기 위한 실무형 협력 체계를 가동한다.

가장 눈에 띄는 변화는 ‘버츄얼태권도·AI위원회’의 신설이다. 이는 최첨단 IT 기술을 태권도에 접목해 차세대 스포츠 콘텐츠를 선점하겠다는 의지로 풀이된다. 또한 겨루기, 품새, 심판 등 기존 분과 외에도 연구·개발(R&D), 대학, 의무, 윤리 위원회 등을 세분화하여 각 분야 전문가들을 전진 배치했다.

이날 위촉된 김병희 기술위원장을 필두로 한 각 분과 위원들은 앞으로 2026년 한 해 동안 아시아 태권도의 기술적 표준을 정립하고 주요 국제 대회의 성공적인 개최를 지원하게 된다.

김상진 ATU 회장은 격려사를 통해 “오늘 위촉된 위원들은 각 분야 최고의 전문가들로서, 여러분의 지혜와 열정이 곧 아시아 태권도의 새로운 표준이 될 것”이라며, “공정한 경쟁과 끊임없는 혁신을 통해 아시아태권도연맹이 세계 태권도 발전을 선도하는 핵심 기구로 거듭나자”고 당부했다.

이어 이규석 명예회장은 “무주 태권도원 시대를 맞아 새롭게 출발하는 기술위원회가 연맹의 기틀을 더욱 공고히 다져줄 것으로 기대한다”고 전했다.

아시아태권도연맹은 이번 기술위원회 출범을 기점으로 단순한 경기 단체를 넘어, 교육과 문화, 기술이 융합된 글로벌 콘텐츠 기구로서의 입지를 굳힐 계획이다. 특히 45개 회원국 간의 네트워크를 강화하고, AI 기반의 데이터 분석과 버츄얼 경기 도입을 통해 태권도의 대중성과 박진감을 한층 높일 예정이다.

연맹 관계자는 “이번 위촉식은 아시아 태권도가 질적으로 도약하는 전환점이 될 것”이라며, “새로운 기술위원들과 함께 투명하고 역동적인 연맹 문화를 만들어 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
